Hawksley Workman - The Ground We Stand On.

From the album Meat.  Such a good song.  Beautiful and sad - just the way I like ‘em

Turntables

Technics SL-1200MK2 turntable in a natural env...

As I get further into music and music production, I feel the need to pick up a few turntables. Not that I need these turntables, it would just be nice to have them to learn traditional scratching rather than electronic djing.

I did not take the route of buying pair or turntables and a mixer and then move to the digital world. I started out with the digital and now am looking back at the analog.

Part of me would like to have the two decks just to look the part but I’m hesitant about ths route. The other part of me would kike to get the decks to learn the old way and then incporporate the techiques I’ve learned into digital djing. Plus these decks are so nice looking.

I’ve been looking at these Stanton decks. T.92 USB. I like that it has the USB to transfer old vinyl to my computer as well as the direct drive which is key.

Jay-Z vs. Radiohead = Jaydiohead LP

Jaydiohead cover.Image via Wikipedia

Big remix album, getting tons of love from blogs, mainstream press and even Hova himself! Jaydiohead is a remix concept album (a la The Grey Album) that take Jay-Z tracks from several of his albums and pairs the acapellas with instrumental loops and samples from across the breadth of the Radiohead catalog. The man behind the project is NYC DJ Max Tannone, and the fruits of his labor are way better than my description might make them sound.

Proof that the mashup craze may have a bit of life left in it yet. 10 tracks total, packaged in a pic sleeve that’ll make you doubletake.

Preview the tracks here.
